How can TimeBanks.org help?

We are committed to building the TimeBank movement through programs, workshops, and resources.

TimeBanks.org works with TimeBanks to advance the common good that TimeBank communities can create.

Together, we help address the needs of your community from social issues arising from inequality, help alleviate social exclusion, and recreate a sense of belonging.

TimeBanks.org's history

It all started in 1980.

TimeBanks.org was born to fulfill the powerful vision of our founder Edgar Cahn.

For three decades as the hub for TimeBanks, TimeBanks.Org has been promoting, developing, and supporting the implementation of timebanking worldwide. We offer educational resources, how-to guides, monthly meet and greets, and TimeBank training. We also share several choices of software for community exchanges and outreach.

Edgar Cahn, the father of the TimeBank Movement

Modern Timebanking was created in the 1980s.

American Civil Rights lawyer and political activist Edgar Cahn is the founder of TimeBanks.org (formerly TimeBanks USA).

He is responsible for its growth from pockets of the world to a truly global phenomenon. The mission was to address social issues arising from inequality and alleviate social exclusion.

TimeBanking advocates

We are here to help you build strong and healthy communities.

Our vision is to:

  • Partner with active local TimeBanks to leverage and support their existing programs and energize them as TimeBank hubs and sources of local leadership.
  • Partner with academic and policy-oriented institutions to anchor timebanking’s theoretical frameworks, data-driven evidence bases, and policy innovations for social/systems change.
  • Expand the knowledge of timebanking– both nationally and internationally – as a tool to address social isolation and increase individual and community capacity and resilience.
